Humility, Surrender, and the Power of the Name
Concept: Faithful praise of Hari stabilizes buddhi and loosens attachment to asat (perishable) sense-objects.
Vedantic Theme: Viveka between sat/asat; turning from vishaya-asakti toward the abiding reality through bhakti that purifies antahkarana.
Application: Daily stuti/japa with mindful restraint of sense-indulgence; redirect attention from fleeting pleasures to remembrance of Hari’s guna.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
Related Themes: Garuda Purana (Bhakti/Moksha sections): recurring motif that Hari-stuti purifies mind and leads to liberation; Garuda Purana: emphasis on vishaya-tyaga as prerequisite for higher devotion
This verse presents stuti as a transformative practice: sincere praise rooted in śraddhā causes one’s understanding (mati) to steadily grow and weakens fixation on impermanent sense pleasures.
By emphasizing increasing discernment and detachment from unreal objects, it indicates that inner purification through devotion is a key support for the soul’s higher course—moving away from bondage created by viṣaya-attachment.
Maintain a daily practice of remembering and praising Vishnu with faith, and consciously redirect attention from short-lived cravings toward actions that build clarity, restraint, and spiritual focus.
