Este breve hino de svastyayana («caminho seguro») ergue um perímetro protetor em torno dos homens da casa —especialmente em viagem, em situação de exposição ou em conflito—, alistando até forças mortíferas e de feição rudriana como guardiões disciplinados. Ele desvia do sacrificante o «veneno maligno» (dano hostil, de caráter bélico ou feiticeiro) por meio da reverência (namas), da oblação e da mobilização das hostes divinas. Sua força está no nomear em estilo de catálogo: nomear é vincular, e vincular é lançar o perigo para fora e selar a segurança por dentro.

Para um ir seguro. Yama, a Morte, o Matador do mal, Nirṛti, Babhru, Śarva, Asta, o de crista azul — hostes nascidas dos deuses, exércitos erguidos em prontidão — que cerquem por todos os lados os nossos heróis.

मन॑सा॒ होमै॒र्हर॑सा घृ॒तेन॑ श॒र्वायास्त्र॑ उ॒त राज्ञे॑ भ॒वाय॑ । न॒म॒स्येऽभ्यो॒ नम॑ एभ्यः कृणोम्य॒न्यत्रा॒स्मद॒घवि॑षा नयन्तु
Com a mente, com as oblações, com força ardente, com ghee — para Śarva, para a Arma e para o Rei, para Bhava. Aos dignos de veneração presto reverência, reverência a estes: que os de veneno maligno levem (seu mal) para outro lugar, para longe de nós.

Protege-nos dos de veneno maligno, do golpe da morte — ó todos os Deuses, ó Maruts, oniscientes. Com Agni-Soma, com Varuṇa de força purificada — que permaneçamos no favor benigno de Vāta e Parjanya.
