Chapter 64 — कूपादिप्रतिष्ठाकथनं
The Account of the Consecration of Wells and Other Water-Works
Lord Agni (traditional Agni Purana narrator) speaking to Vasiṣṭha

Related Themes: Agni Purana 64 (kūpa-vāpī-taḍāga pratiṣṭhā context; Varuṇa worship)
It gives a pratima-nirmāṇa (icon-making) instruction: commission Varuṇa’s image and specifies acceptable materials—gold, silver, or gem-work—grounded in a cosmological rationale invoking Agni–Soma, Viṣṇu, and the Waters.
It blends cosmology (Agni–Soma composition, Viṣṇu as presiding cause, apas as causal basis) with applied temple technology (choice of metals/gems for icons), showing how the text integrates metaphysics with practical ritual arts.
Commissioning Varuṇa’s image according to prescribed materials is treated as a dharmic act supporting proper worship; aligning icon-making with cosmic principles is understood to enhance ritual efficacy and merit (puṇya) through correct devotion and order (ṛta).
