Concept: Correct form (śabda-saṃskāra) supports correct meaning (artha) and aesthetic relish.

Application: Apply a five-point audit: (1) verb agrees with intended kārakas, (2) sandhi applied where required, (3) avoid redundant repeats, (4) ensure dependencies are not crossed/confused, (5) keep syntactic relations transparent.

Khanda Section: Sahitya-shastra (Kavya-dosha / Alankara-shastra: poetic and grammatical faults)

Primary Rasa: Shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A scribe revises a Sanskrit manuscript with a teacher: marking wrong kāraka endings, inserting sandhi, circling repeated words, and drawing arrows to fix scrambled syntax.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, two figures with palm-leaf manuscript, red correction marks stylized as sacred symbols, panels showing sandhi joining letters, strong contours and flat background.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, gold-leaf on manuscript borders and teacher’s seat, visual motifs of joined syllables (sandhi) and crossed-out repeats, rich ornamental frame.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, instructional clarity: close-up of manuscript with arrows linking words (sambandha), teacher pointing to kāraka endings, soft palette and fine detailing.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, atelier of calligraphers, one scholar annotating a Sanskrit folio with precise marginalia, visual arrows and diacritics, intricate border designs."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: क्रियाकारकयोर्भ्रंशो = क्रिया-कारकयोः + भ्रंशः; चेति = च + इति.

FAQs

It imparts Sahitya-vidya (kavya-shastra) by defining five widely recognized, general poetic faults—errors in verb–case governance, lack of sandhi, repetition, and broken or scrambled syntactic relation—used to evaluate and refine Sanskrit composition.

By moving beyond mythology into technical literary theory, it shows the Agni Purana functioning as a multi-disciplinary compendium—preserving practical standards of Sanskrit grammar and poetics alongside ritual, governance, medicine, and other sciences.

In Purāṇic culture, disciplined speech and well-formed recitation are treated as dharmic; avoiding linguistic and poetic faults supports accurate transmission of sacred meaning, producing clearer understanding and more effective religious study and chanting.
