Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"List","entry_title":"Directional Placement of Grahas (Maṅgala, Sūrya, Śani, Rāhu, Ketu)","lookup_keywords":["dik-sthana graha","Mars southeast","Sun center","Saturn west","Rahu Ketu placement"],"quick_summary":"Assign grahas to directions for ritual installation: Maṅgala SE/S, Sūrya center, Śani west, Rāhu SW, Ketu NW—ensuring consistent cosmological orientation in worship diagrams."}

Concept: Dik–graha correspondence: spatial order as a means to regulate subtle influences.

Application: When drawing/placing in maṇḍala or vastu-aligned pūjā, keep fixed directional assignments to avoid ritual ‘doṣa’ (misplacement).

Khanda Section: Jyotisha (Directional placement of Grahas / Vastu-oriented cosmology)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A square/lotus maṇḍala with compass-like directions marked; Sun enthroned at the center; Mars placed in the southeast/south; Saturn in the west; Rāhu in the southwest; Ketu in the northwest, each indicated by emblematic icons.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, bold directional grid with central Sūrya, stylized graha figures in their corners, clear SE/S/W/SW/NW markers, ritual floor setting with lamps","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore style, central Sūrya with radiant gold halo, corner placements for Maṅgala/Śani/Rāhu/Ketu with gold embossing, ornate frame, deep jewel tones","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, diagrammatic clarity: labeled directions, neat geometry, small graha icons, instructional aesthetic with minimal background","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, top-down view of a courtyard maṇḍala like a map, attendants pointing to directions, central sun disc, marginal notes in calligraphic style"}

FAQs

It teaches a Jyotiṣa/Vāstu mapping: specific directions (dik) are assigned to grahas—useful for directional diagrams, placements, and interpretive rules in traditional cosmology.

Beyond myth, the Agni Purana catalogs applied sciences like Jyotiṣa and Vāstu by giving compact technical lists (here, planetary-direction correspondences) used in multiple practical traditions.

Aligning grahas with their prescribed directions is treated as harmonizing cosmic order (ṛta) in ritual and space, supporting auspiciousness and reducing perceived inauspicious influences (especially of Rāhu–Ketu).
