Lord Agni (in discourse to Vasiṣṭha, typical Agni Purāṇa frame)

Related Themes: Agni Purana 162 (Prāyaścitta/Anadhyāya context); Agni Purana 163 (Śrāddha-kalpa begins immediately after)
It prescribes specific situations in which brahmacarya (continence/restraint) is to be observed as a dharmic regulation connected with purity, expiation, and proper conduct.
It functions like a Dharmaśāstra digest: listing practical, case-based rules (guest protocol, accidental harm, death impurity, animal-contact and travel-related acts) showing the Purāṇa’s coverage beyond mythology into applied ritual-law and social conduct.
By adopting brahmacarya in these contexts, one restrains sense-impulses and mitigates doṣa arising from harm, impurity, or social/ritual disruption—supporting purification (śuddhi) and dharmic merit.
