Related Themes: Agni Purana avatara catalog sections; Matsya dialogue verses (2.10–2.12)
No ritual or technical vidyā is prescribed here; the verse establishes a miraculous sign (the fish’s instantaneous cosmic expansion) that prompts Manu’s inquiry and sets up the avatāra-guided instruction that follows.
By anchoring later teachings in an avatāra narrative, the Agni Purana integrates cosmology and sacred history with subsequent practical instruction—showing how its encyclopedic topics are often introduced through mythic frames.
The sudden expansion signifies divine protection appearing at the crisis of pralaya; the karmic takeaway is that reverent attention to divine signs leads the righteous (Manu) to guidance that safeguards dharma and future creation.
