Chapter 16 — बुद्धाद्यवतारकथनम्
Narration of Buddha and Other Incarnations
Lord Agni (narrating purāṇic chronology to the sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purāṇa’s discourse frame)

Concept: Cyclic cosmology: decline is not final; dharma is restored through cosmic order.
Application: Cultivate steadiness and long-view ethics; interpret historical change through yuga-dharma rather than despair.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 16 (Buddha–Kalki avatāra narrative); Agni Purana 17 (sṛṣṭi-prakaraṇa begins immediately after)
It imparts purāṇic time-science (yuga-parivartana): the doctrinal sequence that after Kalki’s avatāra-mission ends, Viṣṇu withdraws that form and the Kṛta-Yuga cycle is re-established.
It functions as a concise entry in Agni Purāṇa’s wide-ranging compendium on cosmology and chronology, cataloging avatar-teleology (purpose and withdrawal of an avatāra) alongside the cyclical structure of the four yugas.
It emphasizes that divine intervention restores dharma in cycles; spiritually, it encourages steadfast dharma in Kali-Yuga with the assurance that disorder is temporary and truth (Kṛta-Yuga) returns by cosmic law.
