Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Puja-vidhi","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Annual/periodic temple or home installation of pavitra (consecrated cord/ring) for any deity-image, coordinating mantra-recitation and homa/fire-consecration.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Sarvadeva-pavitrāropaṇa (General rule for installing pavitra for all deities)","lookup_keywords":["pavitrāropaṇa","sarvadeva-pūjā","pavitra-lakṣaṇa","mantra-svara","homa-anala"],"quick_summary":"The pavitra used for any deity should be auspiciously marked/fit in form and must be ritually connected with mantra-sound and consecrated fire, establishing it as a valid purificatory offering."}
Concept: Ritual purity is established through correct materials (pavitra-lakṣaṇa) and correct energizing agencies (mantra and fire).
Application: In pūjā, treat mantra (sound) and agni (homa) as validating forces that ‘activate’ offerings beyond mere physical presentation.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Pavitra-arohana / Sacred-threading rites for deities)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: śānta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Agni as teacher instructs the rite: a priest holds a pavitra cord/ring with auspicious marks while a small homa-fire burns; mantra-recitation is implied by a reciter with rosary and open palm gesture.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, Agni ṛṣi seated teaching, stylized homa-kuṇḍa with flames, priest holding white/golden pavitra cord with auspicious markings, muted reds and ochres, ornate borders, sacred calm atmosphere.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central Agni as divine sage with halo, gold-foil highlights on pavitra cord and homa flames, priest offering pavitra near deity pedestal, rich jewel tones, temple interior setting.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, instructional composition: labeled ritual items (pavitra, mantra text scroll, homa fire), fine linework, soft shading, priest and assistant preparing consecration, clean architectural backdrop.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly workshop-like ritual scene: scholar-sage dictating, scribe with manuscript, priest by fire altar, detailed textiles, delicate flames, precise depiction of cord and ritual implements."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"instructional","suggested_raga":"Bhairav","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: इत्य्→इति; ऽध्यायः→अध्यायः; अग्निर् उवाच→अग्निः उवाच; त्वपि→त्वम् अपि. Several opening items are colophonic headings; final phrase ‘svarasānalagaṃ’ is textually unclear and analyzed as a tatpuruṣa-like compound.
Related Themes: Agni Purāṇa 36 (Viṣṇu-pavitrāropaṇa); Agni Purāṇa (pūjā-vidhi sections on mantra, homa, and upacāras)
It introduces the concise procedure for sarva-deva pavitrārohaṇa—ritually installing the pavitra (sacred band/garland) for deities—stressing correct auspicious specifications (lakṣaṇa), mantra-intonation (svara), and linkage to the consecrated fire (anala).
It shifts from a deity-specific rite (Viṣṇu pavitrārohaṇa) to a generalized, reusable ritual protocol for all deities—typical of the Agni Purāṇa’s handbook style that systematizes worship techniques across multiple cults and temple contexts.
By insisting on auspicious marks, correct mantra-sound, and fire-sanctification, the verse frames pavitrārohaṇa as a purification-and-merit generating act that aligns worship with śāstric correctness, enhancing ritual efficacy and devotional purity.
