Verse 21

Yogatattva

एतेषां लक्षणं ब्रह्मन् वक्ष्ये शृणु समासतः । मातृकादियुतं मन्त्रं द्वादशाब्दं तु यो जपेत् ॥

क्रमेण लभते ज्ञानम् अणिमादिगुणान्वितम् । अल्पबुद्धिरिमं योगं सेवते साधकाधमः ॥

एतेषाम् । लक्षणम् । ब्रह्मन् । वक्ष्ये । शृणु । समासतः । मातृका-आदि-युतम् । मन्त्रम् । द्वादश-अब्दम् । तु । यः । जपेत् ।

क्रमेण । लभते । ज्ञानम् । अणिमा-आदि-गुण-अन्वितम् । अल्प-बुद्धिः । इमम् । योगम् । सेवते । साधक-अधमः ।

eteṣāṃ lakṣaṇaṃ brahman vakṣye śṛṇu samāsataḥ | mātṛkādiyutaṃ mantraṃ dvādaśābdaṃ tu yo japet ||

krameṇa labhate jñānam aṇimādiguṇānvitam | alpabuddhir imaṃ yogaṃ sevate sādhakādhamaḥ ||

ਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਮੈਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੱਛਣ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ—ਸੁਣ। ਜੋ ਮਾਤ੍ਰਿਕਾ (ਅੱਖਰ-ਸ਼ਕਤੀ) ਆਦਿ ਨਾਲ ਯੁਕਤ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਅੱਖਰਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ ਅਣਿਮਾ ਆਦਿ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਯੁਕਤ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਲਪ-ਬੁੱਧੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਸ ਯੋਗ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਵਦਾ ਹੈ; ਉਹ ਸਾਧਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਧਮ ਕਿਹਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

I shall state, O Brahmin, their characteristics—listen briefly. Whoever repeats a twelve-syllabled mantra endowed with the mātṛkā (letters) and so forth, gradually attains knowledge accompanied by qualities beginning with aṇimā (minuteness). A person of little understanding practices this yoga; (he is) the lowest among practitioners.
