सशिखं वपनं कृत्वा बहिःसूत्रं त्यजेद्बुधः । यदक्षरं परंब्रह्म तत्सूत्रमिति धारयेत् ॥६॥

स-शिखम् । वपनम् । कृत्वा । बहिः-सूत्रम् । त्यजेत् । बुधः । यत् । अक्षरम् । परम्-ब्रह्म । तत् । सूत्रम् । इति । धारयेत् ॥६॥

IAST Transliteration

saśikhaṃ vapanaṃ kṛtvā bahiḥsūtraṃ tyajed budhaḥ | yad akṣaraṃ paraṃbrahma tatsūtram iti dhārayet ||6||

Translation

ਸ਼ਿਖਾ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਮੁੰਡਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਬੁੱਧਿਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਬਾਹਰੀ ਸੂਤਰ (ਯਜ੍ਞੋਪਵੀਤ) ਤਿਆਗ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਅਕਸ਼ਰ ਪਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਸੱਚਾ ਸੂਤਰ ਹੈ—ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ੍ਹ ਧਾਰਣਾ ਰੱਖੇ ॥੬॥

Academic Translation

Having shaved (the head) leaving the tuft, the wise one should abandon the external thread; he should hold (as his conviction) that the imperishable Supreme Brahman itself is the thread.
