Verse 40

Katharudra

व्यावृत्तानि परं प्राप्तुं न समर्थानि तानि तु ॥ तद्ब्रह्मानन्दमद्वन्द्वं निर्गुणं सत्यचिद्घनम् । विदित्वा स्वात्मरूपेण न बिभेति कुतश्चन ॥ एवं यस्तु विजानाति स्वगुरोरुपदेशतः । स साध्वासाधुकर्मभ्यां सदा न तपति प्रभुः ॥ ताप्यतापकरूपेण विभातमखिलं जगत् ॥

व्यावृत्तानि । परम् । प्राप्तुम् । न । समर्थानि । तानि । तु ॥ तत् । ब्रह्म-आनन्दम् । अद्वन्द्वम् । निर्गुणम् । सत्य-चित्-घनम् । विदित्वा । स्व-आत्म-रूपेण । न । बिभेति । कुतश्चन ॥ एवम् । यः । तु । विजानाति । स्व-गुरोः । उपदेशतः ॥ सः । साधु-असाधु-कर्मभ्याम् । सदा । न । तपति । प्रभुः ॥ ताप्य-अतापक-रूपेण । विभाति । अखिलम् । जगत् ॥

vyāvṛttāni paraṃ prāptuṃ na samarthāni tāni tu || tad brahmānandam advandvaṃ nirguṇaṃ satyacidghanaṃ | viditvā svātmarūpeṇa na bibheti kutaścana || evaṃ yas tu vijānāti svaguror upadeśataḥ | sa sādhvāsādhukarmabhyāṃ sadā na tapati prabhuḥ || tāpyatāpakarūpeṇa vibhātam akhilaṃ jagat ||

ਜੋ ਸਾਧਨ ਤੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਪਰਮ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੜ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਯੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ। ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨੂੰ—ਆਨੰਦਸਰੂਪ, ਅਦ੍ਵੈਤ (ਦ੍ਵੰਦ੍ਵ-ਰਹਿਤ), ਨਿਰਗੁਣ, ਸਤ੍ਯ-ਚਿਤ੍-ਘਨ—ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਸਰੂਪ ਵਜੋਂ ਜਾਣ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਭੀ ਡਰਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਨਾਲ ਜੋ ਇਹ ਤੱਤ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪ-ਅਧੀਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪੁਰਖ ਸ਼ੁਭ-ਅਸ਼ੁਭ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਦੇ ਤਪਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਤਾਪ੍ਯ (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ-ਗ੍ਰਾਹ੍ਯ) ਅਤੇ ਅਤਾਪ੍ਯ (ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ-ਅਤੀਤ) ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Those (means and pursuits) that have turned away are not capable of attaining the Supreme. Having known that Brahman—bliss, non-dual (free from pairs of opposites), without attributes, a dense mass of truth and consciousness—as one’s own Self, one does not fear from anywhere. Thus, he who knows (this) through the instruction of his own guru—he, the master (of himself), is never afflicted by good and bad actions. The entire world appears in the form of what is to be heated (affected) and what does not heat (is unaffected).
