Genealogy of Svāyambhuva Manu and the Dhruva Episode
kanyāyāṃ hi muniśreṣṭha vaiśyajanma prajāyateḥ | pururmāsaḥ śatadyumnastapasvī satyavitkaviḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Role: teaching
It emphasizes inner qualification over mere birth: the one born is described by spiritual traits—tapas (austerity), satya (truth), and kavitva (seer-like insight)—which, in Shaiva thought, are signs of ripening toward Shiva’s grace and liberation.
Though the verse is genealogical, it frames the devotee’s fitness for Saguna Shiva worship: truthfulness and austerity are classic supports for disciplined Linga-puja, helping the mind become steady for devotion and Shiva-anugraha.
The takeaway is to cultivate tapas and satya alongside daily Shiva worship—such as japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) and simple Linga-abhisheka—so conduct and practice align with the pursuit of Shiva.
