The Recital/Teaching of the Thousand Names of Śiva
pūrṇaḥ pūrayitā puṇyaḥ sukumāraḥ sulocanaḥ | sanmārgamapriyo dhūrttaḥ puṇyakīrtiranāmayaḥ
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadāśiva
Type: stotra
Offering: pushpa
This verse praises Shiva as Pati—the complete and faultless Lord—whose grace fulfills the devotee’s highest good, purifies karma, and leads beyond affliction toward liberation.
These epithets function as a stuti used in Saguna worship: the devotee approaches Shiva through name and form (often the Jyotirlinga), while recognizing His transcendence as the Perfect One beyond worldly grasp.
Practice Shiva-nāma-japa (especially with the Panchakshara, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and recite such stutis before a Linga/Jyotirlinga with bhakti, cultivating purity (puṇya) and freedom from inner “disease” (anāmaya).
