ਇਹ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਸੂਕਤ ‘ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ’ ਪਰਜਨ੍ਯ ਨੂੰ ਉਦਾਰ ਵਰਖਾ-ਦਾਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਸੱਦਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਚਰਾਗਾਹ, ਬੂਟਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਾਂ-ਘੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਉਰਵਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਦਾਇਨੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦੀ ਸਤੁਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਸੂਕਤ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਰੀਤੀ-ਵਿਧੀ ਦੀ ਹਦਾਇਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ: ਪਰਜਨ੍ਯ ਨੂੰ ਮਿੱਠੀ ਹਵਿਸ ਅਰਪਣ ਕਰੋ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕ੍ਰਮਬੱਧ ਵਾਧਾ (ਇਲ਼ਾ) ਅਤੇ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੇ।

पर्जन्याय प्र गायत दिवस्पुत्राय मीळ्हुषे । स नो यवसमिच्छतु ॥
ਦਿਵ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਉਦਾਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਰਜਨ੍ਯ ਲਈ ਗਾਓ; ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਯਵਸ—ਚਾਰਾ, ਪੋਸ਼ਕ ਵਾਧਾ—ਇੱਛੇ।

यो गर्भमोषधीनां गवां कृणोत्यर्वताम् । पर्जन्यः पुरुषीणाम् ॥
ਜੋ ਔਸ਼ਧੀਆਂ, ਗਾਂਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਅਸ਼ਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਰਭ ਰਚਦਾ ਹੈ—ਪੁਰੁਸ਼ੀਣ, ਬਹੁ-ਸਮ੍ਰਿੱਧ ਪਰਜਨ੍ਯ।

तस्मा इदास्ये हविर्जुहोता मधुमत्तमम् । इळां नः संयतं करत् ॥
ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਧੁਰ ਹਵਿ ਅਰਪਣ ਕਰੋ; ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਇਲ਼ਾ—ਸੁਵਿਵਸਥਿਤ ਵੰਡ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਧਾ—ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕਰੇ।

Parjanya is the Vedic power of rain and fertility. The hymn praises him as the generous “son of Heaven” who brings growth to plants and prosperity to cattle and horses.
It asks for yavas (pasture/sustaining increase) and for iḷā—meaning well-ordered nourishment, right distribution, and stable prosperity supported by timely rain.
It can be recited during a fire offering when seeking rain, crop growth, or herd well-being. The third verse explicitly directs offering a sweet oblation (madhumat havis) to Parjanya while praying for iḷā.
