सुन्दरकाण्डे अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः
हनुमद्वृत्तान्तकथनम्, सीताभिज्ञान-प्रदानम्, लङ्कादाह-वर्णनम्
प्रहस्य च महानादमुक्तोऽहं भीमया तया।अवस्थितमसम्भ्रान्तमिदं वाक्यमशोभनम्।।।।
prahasya ca mahānādam ukto ’haṃ bhīmayā tayā | avasthitam asambhrāntam idaṃ vākyam aśobhanam ||
ਉਹ ਭਿਆਨਕਣੀ ਹੱਸ ਕੇ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੀ; ਮੈਂ ਅਡੋਲ ਤੇ ਨਿਡਰ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਅਸ਼ੁਭ ਬਚਨ ਕਹੇ।
"She was frightening and laughed in loud voice without any hesitation. Steadfast she uttered these ominous words to me:
Dharma here is discernment: ominous, harmful speech signals adharma. The verse prepares the listener to judge the coming threat as unrighteous and to see Hanuman’s resistance as duty-bound protection of his mission.
While crossing the ocean, Hanuman encounters the rākṣasī Siṁhikā, who addresses him with threatening intent; Hanuman recounts her ominous words to his listeners.
Hanuman’s steadiness (asambhrānti)—he remains composed and alert even when confronted by frightening, hostile speech.
