अनसूयाप्रीतिदानम्
Anasūyā’s Blessing and the Forest Path
उच्छिष्टं वा प्रमत्तं वा तापसं धर्मचारिणम्।अदन्त्यस्मिन्महारण्ये तान्निवारय राघव।।।।
ucchiṣṭaṃ vā pramattaṃ vā tāpasaṃ dharmacāriṇam |
adanty asmin mahāraṇye tān nivāraya rāghava ||
ਇਸ ਮਹਾ-ਅਰਣ੍ਯ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਛਿਸ਼ਟ ਕਾਰਨ ਅਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਮੱਤ—ਅਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਧਰਮਚਾਰੀ ਤਪਸਵੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੈਤ ਭੱਖ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਹੇ ਰਾਘਵ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਨਿਵਾਰ।
The resplendent Sun has set. The auspcious night is drawing near. The birds who forage far and wide for food during the day return to their nests to rest for the night. You can hear them twittering.
Dharma emphasizes protection of dharma-practitioners: a ruler/warrior must safeguard even the vulnerable or imperfect, not only the vigilant and strong.
Ascetics petition Rama to stop rākṣasas who prey on hermits when they are inattentive or ritually compromised.
Rama’s expected virtue is rakṣaṇa (protective guardianship): the kṣatriya obligation to defend ascetics and uphold righteous order.
