Yamavākya
The Words of Yama
nispṛho nācaredyastu niyogaṃ padmasaṃbhava | andhakūpe nipatati sa cāśu narake dhruvam || 2 ||
Narada (teaching in a didactic passage; addressing Brahmā as 'Padmasambhava')
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhayanaka
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that mere inner detachment (nispṛhatā) is not enough; one must still follow śāstric injunctions and perform rightful duties, otherwise one incurs downfall and painful consequences.
It implies that authentic bhakti is not passive: devotion is expressed through obedient practice of ordained dharma—vows, worship, and righteous conduct—rather than neglecting prescribed action under the pretext of detachment.
The verse highlights the principle of śāstra-niyoga (authoritative injunction), aligning with Kalpa (ritual procedure) and Dharma-śāstra reasoning: duties are to be performed as prescribed, not abandoned.
