Sañjaya’s Envoy-Speech on Peace
नाश्रेयानीश्वरो विग्रहाणां नाश्रेयान् वै गीतशब्दं शृणोति । नाश्रेयान् वै सेवते माल्यगन्धान् न चाप्यश्रेयाननुलेपनानि
sañjaya uvāca | nāśreyān īśvaro vigrahāṇāṃ nāśreyān vai gītaśabdaṃ śṛṇoti | nāśreyān vai sevate mālyagandhān na cāpy aśreyān anulepanāni |
ਸੰਜਯ ਬੋਲਿਆ—ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾ ਬਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹ ਟਕਰਾਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੱਚਾ ਅਧਿਪਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣਦਾ; ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਯਸ਼ ਦੇ ਗੀਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੁਨ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੁੰਨ-ਸੰਚੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮਾਲਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਸੁਗੰਧਾਂ ਦਾ ਭੋਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਤਮ ਲੇਪਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਯੋਗ। ਭੋਗ ਅਤੇ ਕੀਰਤੀ ਪੂਰਵ ਪੁੰਨ ਦੇ ਫਲ ਹਨ; ਪਰ ਅਵਿਵੇਕੀ ਭੋਗ-ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਲੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਪੀੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਹੈ।
