अविलम्बमनायस्तमद्रुतं धीरमूर्जितम् । असंसक्ताक्षरपदं स्वरभावसमन्वितम्
avilambam anāyastam adrutaṃ dhīram ūrjitam | asaṃsaktākṣarapadaṃ svarabhāvasamanvitam ||
ਕਥਾ-ਪਾਠ ਨਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਰੁਕ ਰੁਕ ਕੇ ਹੋਵੇ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਤੇਜ਼। ਉਹ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ, ਧੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਓਜਸਵੀ ਗਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਵੇ; ਅੱਖਰ ਤੇ ਪਦ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁੱਥੇ ਨਾ ਰਹਿਣ, ਉਚਾਰਣ ਸਾਫ਼ ਹੋਵੇ; ਅਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਤੇ ਭਾਵ ਇਕਸਾਰ ਹੋਣ— ਤਦ ਹੀ ਅਰਥ ਮਿੱਠੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਖੁਲ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।
