आपद्धर्मे वैश्यवृत्तिः, विक्रय-निषेधाः, तथा ब्रह्म-क्षत्र-सम्बन्धः

भीष्म उवाच अशक्ति: क्षत्रधर्मेण वैश्यधर्मेण वर्तयेत् । कृषिगोरक्ष्यमास्थाय व्यसने वृत्तिसंक्षये
bhīṣma uvāca aśaktiḥ kṣatradharmeṇa vaiśyadharmeṇa vartayet | kṛṣigorakṣyam āsthāya vyasane vṛttisaṃkṣaye ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ—ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਖ਼ਸ਼ਤਰੀ ਧਰਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਵੈਸ਼੍ਯ ਧਰਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਰਤ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਿਕਾ ਕਰੇ। ਆਫ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਰੋਜ਼ੀ ਘੱਟ ਪੈ ਜਾਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਖੇਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੋ-ਰੱਖਿਆ (ਪਸ਼ੂਪਾਲਨ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਕਰੇ।
