उपह्वरे निवसतो यस्याड्के निषसाद ह । गड़ा भागीरथी तस्मादुर्वशी चाभवत् पुरा,“तटके निकट निवास करते समय गंगाजी राजा भगीरथकी गोदमें आ बैठी थीं। इसलिये वे पूर्वकालमें भागीरथी और उर्वशी नामसे प्रसिद्ध हुईं
upahvare nivasato yasyāṅke niṣasāda ha | gaṅgā bhāgīrathī tasmād urvaśī cābhavat purā ||
ਵਾਯੂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਵੱਸਦਿਆਂ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਗੰਗਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਗੋਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਬੈਠੀ। ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਾਚੀਨ ਘਟਨਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਉਹ ‘ਭਾਗੀਰਥੀ’ ਅਤੇ ‘ਉਰਵਸ਼ੀ’ ਨਾਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਹੋਈ।
