Adhyāya 270 — Yudhiṣṭhira’s inquiry on saṃnyāsa; Bhīṣma on calculable time, tamas, and karma
Vṛtra–Uśanā exemplum begins
कामलोभानुबन्धेन पुरा ते यदसूयितम् । मया स्नेहमविज्ञाय तत्र मे क्षन्तुमहसि
kāmalobhānubandhena purā te yad asūyitam | mayā sneham avijñāya tatra me kṣantum arhasi ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਾਮ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਭ ਦੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਜੋ ਈਰਖਾ-ਭਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਕਹੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁਕਿਆ ਸਨੇਹ ਨ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਿਆ; ਉਸ ਅਪਰਾਧ ਲਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
