ब्राह्मणस्य पूर्वतरा वृत्तिः — The Earlier Ideal Conduct of a Brahmana
River-of-Saṃsāra Metaphor
न चेदमचलं स्थानमनन्तं वापि कस्यचित् । त्वं तु बालिशया बुद्धया ममेदमिति मन््यसे
na cedam acalaṁ sthānam anantaṁ vāpi kasyacit | tvaṁ tu bāliśayā buddhyā mamedam iti manyase ||
ਇਹ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਲਈ ਅਡੋਲ ਨਹੀਂ, ਨਾ ਹੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਲਈ ਅਨੰਤ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਤੂੰ ਬਾਲਿਸ਼ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ-ਗ੍ਰਸਤ ਬੁੱਧੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ‘ਮੇਰਾ’ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਇੰਦਰ ਦਾ ਪਦ ਵੀ ਕਦੇ ਸਥਾਈ ਸਾਬਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ—ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਗ ਕੇ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸੱਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਲਕੀਅਤ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ ਨਾ ਚੰਬੜ; ਇਸ ਦੀ ਅਨਿਤਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਤ।
