Adhyāya 166: Kṛtaghna-doṣa (कृतघ्नदोषः) — the fault of ingratitude and the limits of expiation
न ब्राह्मणो निवेदेत किंचिद् राजनि वेदवित् । स्ववीर्याद् राजवीर्याच्च स्ववीर्य बलवत्तरम्
na brāhmaṇo nivedet kiñcid rājani vedavit | svavīryād rājavīryāc ca svavīryaṃ balavattaram ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ— ਵੇਦ-ਜਾਣੂ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੋਲ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਲਈ ਅਰਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ; ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ—ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਹੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੈ।
