Educational Q&A

The line underscores how a single righteous and capable agent can uphold the morale and perceived order of an entire community. Ethically, it highlights the dependence of collective dharma and stability on exemplary leadership—when such a figure is absent, the world feels diminished and unsafe.

Sanjaya addresses Dāruka and expresses a stark sense of loss or alarm: even a brief absence of Arjuna makes the ‘world’ feel empty of its protector. In the war context, this conveys the battlefield’s psychological and strategic reliance on Arjuna’s presence.
