Cyavana Explains His Tests; Kuśika Seeks Brāhmaṇya for His Line (च्यवन–कुशिक संवादः)
निश्चित्य मनसा सर्व गुणदोषबलाबलम् | दग्धुकाम: कुलं सर्व कुशिकानां तपोधन:
niścitya manasā sarva-guṇa-doṣa-balābalam | dagdhukāmaḥ kulaṃ sarvaṃ kuśikānāṃ tapodhanaḥ |
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਭ੍ਰਿਗੁਪੁੱਤਰ ਚ੍ਯਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕੁਸ਼ਿਕ-ਵੰਸ਼ ਦੀ ਕਨਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹੀ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੰਸ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਖ਼ਸ਼ਤਰੀਅਤ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਭਾਰੀ ਦੋਸ਼ ਉੱਠੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਤਪੋਧਨ ਮੁਨੀਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼ਠ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ-ਦੋਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਬਲ-ਅਬਲ ਦਾ ਤੋਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੱਕਾ ਨਿਸ਼ਚਯ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਸ਼ਿਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਕੁਲ ਨੂੰ ਭਸਮ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੁਸ਼ਿਕ ਰਾਜੇ ਕੋਲ ਗਿਆ।
