Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma
देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
ਭੀਸ਼ਮ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਧਰਮ-ਸ਼ਾਸਤਰ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਜੋ ਇਸਤਰੀ ਨਿਆਂਸੰਗਤ ਰੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਤੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਵਦੱਤਾ ਵਾਂਗ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਮੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਗ੍ਯ-ਪ੍ਰਦੱਤ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਆਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਯੋਗ ਕਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਝੂਠੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
