Dāna-Śreṣṭhatā: On the Superiority of Giving
Maitreya–Vyāsa Exemplum
गुप्त शरणमाश्रित्य भयेषु शरणागता: । अकस्मात् ते मया त्यक्ता न त्राता अभयैषिण:
gupta-śaraṇam āśritya bhayeṣu śaraṇāgatāḥ | akasmāt te mayā tyaktā na trātā abhayaiṣiṇaḥ ||
ਡਰ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਨਿਡਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਨਾਲ ਕਈ ਸ਼ਰਨਾਰਥੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਉਂਦੇ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਪਤ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਥਾਂ ਤੱਕ ਪਹੁੰਚਾ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਅਚਾਨਕ ਉਥੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਦਿੰਦਾ; ਸ਼ਰਨ ਆਏ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ।
