आदि पर्व — खाण्डवदाह प्रसङ्गः: पावकस्य याचनं तथा इन्द्रवर्षनिवारणोपायः
Adi Parva — Khāṇḍava episode: Agni’s request and the means to resist Indra’s rain
आदित्य इव त॑ देशं कृत्स्नं सर्व व्यकाशयत् । तस्य दृष्ट्वा तपस्तादूग् रूप॑ चाद्धुतमुत्तमम्
āditya iva taṁ deśaṁ kṛtsnaṁ sarvaṁ vyakāśayat | tasya dṛṣṭvā tapastādṛg rūpaṁ cādbhutam uttamam ||
ਵੈਸ਼ੰਪਾਯਨ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ—ਸੂਰਜ ਵਾਂਗ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ—ਉਸ ਦੀ ਤਪੱਸਿਆ ਦੀ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਝਲਕ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਦਭੁਤ, ਪਰਮ ਉੱਤਮ ਰੂਪ—(ਦਰਸ਼ਕ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ)।
