Sukta 9
द्वा सुपर्णा सयुजा सखाया समानं वृक्षं परि षस्वजाते । तयोरन्यः पिप्पलं स्वाद्वत्त्यनश्नन्नन्यो अभि चाकशीति
dvā́ supárṇā sayújā sákhāyā samānáṃ vṛ́kṣaṃ pári ṣasvajāte | táyor anyáḥ píppalaṃ svādv átti ánaśnann anyó abhí cākaśīti ||
Two fair-winged, yoked together, companions, cling round the self-same tree. Of the twain, the one eateth the sweet pippala fruit; the other, eating not, looketh on in contemplation.
ਦੋ ਸੁਪਰਨ (ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪੰਖਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ), ਇਕੱਠੇ ਜੁੜੇ ਸਾਥੀ—ਉਸੇ ਇਕ ਰੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਰੋਂ ਪਾਸੇ ਘੇਰ ਕੇ ਲਪਟੇ ਹਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਮਿੱਠਾ ਪਿੱਪਲ (ਪਿੱਪਲ ਦਾ ਫਲ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਤੱਕਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
