Related Themes: Agni Purana Itihasa passages narrating the breakdown of peace and war commencement
This verse conveys nīti-śāstra (statecraft) and rāja-dharma in practice: the hardline refusal of territorial concession and the decision to proceed to saṅgrahaṇa (muster and mobilization) for war.
By embedding an Itihāsa (Mahābhārata) political exchange inside a Purāṇa, the Agni Purana integrates narrative history with practical governance themes—diplomacy, negotiation failure, and military mobilization—alongside its many other disciplines.
The verse highlights the karmic peril of obstinacy (ahaṅkāra and lobha): refusing even minimal justice and choosing war becomes a moral cause for destructive outcomes, underscoring that adharma-driven decisions lead to suffering and downfall.
