It teaches the śravaṇa-vidhi in principle: hearing the Ramāyaṇa (a sacred Itihāsa) is itself a meritorious practice that yields a stated fruit (phala).
Alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and śāstra topics, the Agni Purāṇa also preserves Itihāsa-mahātmya and phala-śruti sections—cataloguing the religious efficacy of revered texts like the Ramāyaṇa.
It asserts that attentive listening to the Ramāyaṇa generates puṇya sufficient to lead the listener to a heavenly destination (divaṁ vrajet).
