It praises śravaṇa (devout listening) and pāṭha (recitation/teaching) as Shaiva acts that generate puṇya and elevate the devotee’s spiritual standing, showing that sustained engagement with Shiva-kathā purifies the mind and supports dharma.
Reciting and hearing Shiva-centered scripture is a core limb of Saguna Shiva devotion—honoring Shiva through nāma, guṇa, and līlā—often performed alongside Linga-pūjā; the verse emphasizes that such devotional contact itself is meritorious and uplifting.
Regular pāṭha of the relevant chapter and attentive śravaṇa—ideally in a daily or vrata context (e.g., Mahāśivarātri)—can be paired with simple Linga worship, japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”), and maintaining a disciplined dhārmic life.
