Primary Rasa: shanta
Type: forest
It presents the classical progression: after completing gārhasthya (householder life), one should enter vānaprastha (forest-dweller discipline), and then cultivate full detachment leading to renunciation (vairāgya/sannyāsa-like withdrawal).
It allows two situations for the transition: entering the later stage with one’s wife (sa-strīka) or continuing after she has departed (gata-strīka), indicating that renunciation is not blocked by either circumstance.
The verse stresses timely detachment and orderly life-stages: responsibilities are to be honored in household life, but one should not cling to them indefinitely—one should intentionally move toward discipline and renunciation.
