in the context of Rāma’s Aśvamedha
śrīrāma uvāca | vilokaya dvijaśreṣṭha vājiśālāṃ mamādhunā | tādṛśāḥ saṃti no vāśvāḥ śubhalakṣaṇalakṣitāḥ
Śrī Rāma
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: city
Sandhi Resolution Notes:
The speaker is Śrī Rāma, addressing a “dvijaśreṣṭha,” an eminent twice-born person—typically an excellent brāhmaṇa.
Rāma invites the brāhmaṇa to inspect his horse-stable and states that they possess horses distinguished by auspicious signs.
The verse reflects the traditional ideal of consulting and honoring learned brāhmaṇas/elders in royal or ritual matters, and valuing auspicious qualities as indicators for important undertakings.
