Adhyaya 73 — The Uttama Manvantara: Classes of Devas, Indra Sushanti, and the Royal Lineage
teṣām indro mahābhāgas trailokye sa gurur bhavet | śataṃ kratūnām āhṛtya suśāntir nāma nāmataḥ ||
Authority (even divine authority) is portrayed as merit-based: Indra’s eminence and epithet arise from sustained sacrificial accomplishment, linking leadership with tapas/karma rather than mere inheritance.
Manvantara: naming the Indra of a given Manu-era is a standard purāṇic manvantara-detail.
‘Suśānti’ (good peace) hints that the fruit of perfected yajña is not only power but pacification—cosmic stability maintained through properly offered rites.
