मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Tapas (disciplined austerity) is portrayed as a real, efficacious force: it can awaken, intensify, and sustain divine energies. The verse also implies ethical restraint—such power is invoked and directed under the guidance of venerable sages rather than unleashed aimlessly.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Bhṛgu, Aṅgiras, and other sages again employ their austerities to rouse Agni. As a result, Agni—already radiant—becomes further strengthened by tapas and flares up with great intensity.
