Kṛṣṇa’s Counsel to Dhṛtarāṣṭra in the Assembly
puraṃ kurūṇāṃ saṃvṛttaṃ draṣṭukāmaṃ janārdanam | sabālavṛddhaṃ sastrīkaṃ rathyāgatam ariṃdama śatrudamana janamejaya ||
The verse highlights the cultural-ethical value of darśana—seeking the sight of a revered, dharmic figure—as a communal act that unites all social groups (children, elders, women). It suggests that reverence for virtue and divine presence can momentarily transcend political divisions, even in a charged time.
As Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) comes to the Kuru capital during the Udyoga Parva’s diplomatic and war-preparatory events, the entire city comes out into the streets to see him, indicating his extraordinary stature and the public’s eager anticipation.
