नाकार्य कर्तुमिच्छामि ब्राह्मण: सन्‌ विशेषत: । श्रुतर्थर्मा सत्यशीलो जानन्‌ धर्मानुशासनम्‌,विशेषतः ब्राह्मण होकर मैं यह न करने योग्य कार्य नहीं कर सकता। मैंने धर्मकी बातें सुनी हैं और सत्यको अपने स्वभावमें उतार लिया है। शास्त्रोंमें जो धर्मका उपदेश किया गया है, उसे भी जानता हूँ; अतः मैं यह पापकर्म नहीं करूँगा! सुरश्रेष्ठटण! आपलोग लौट जायँ। इस विषयमें ब्रह्माजीने पूर्वकालमें जो गीत गाया था, वह इस प्रकार है, सुनिये

na akāryaṁ kartum icchāmi brāhmaṇaḥ san viśeṣataḥ | śrutadharmā satyaśīlo jānan dharmānuśāsanam ||

ଶଲ୍ୟ କହିଲେ—ଯାହା କରିବା ଉଚିତ୍ ନୁହେଁ, ସେହି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମୁଁ କରିବାକୁ ଇଚ୍ଛା କରେନି; ବିଶେଷତଃ ମୁଁ ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣ। ମୁଁ ଧର୍ମର ଉପଦେଶ ଶୁଣିଛି, ସତ୍ୟକୁ ସ୍ୱଭାବ କରିଛି, ଏବଂ ଧର୍ମ ଶିଖାଉଥିବା ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରାନୁଶାସନକୁ ଜାଣେ। ତେଣୁ ଏହି ପାପକର୍ମ ମୁଁ କରିବି ନାହିଁ। ହେ ସୁରଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠମାନେ, ତୁମେ ଫେରିଯାଅ। ଏହି ବିଷୟରେ ପୁରାତନକାଳରେ ବ୍ରହ୍ମା ଯେ ଗୀତ ଗାଇଥିଲେ, ତାହା ଶୁଣ।
