ययातिपतनम् — Yayāti’s Fall and the Offer of Dharma

Nārada’s Account

वनेषु मृगवासेषु व्याप्रविप्रोषितेषु च । दावाग्निविप्रयुक्तेषु शून्येषु गहनेषु च

vaneṣu mṛgavāseṣu vyāpraviproṣiteṣu ca | dāvāgniviprayukteṣu śūnyeṣu gahaneṣu ca ||

ନାରଦ କହିଲେ—ମୃଗମାନଙ୍କର ଆବାସଭୂତ ସେହି ବନମାନେ, ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ମାନବ ହଲଚଲ ଓ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟକଳାପର କୋଳାହଳ ନଥିଲା, ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ଦାବାନଳର ଭୟ ନଥିଲା, ଯାହା ବସତିଶୂନ୍ୟ ଓ ଗହନ ନିର୍ଜନ—ସେଠାରେ ମାଧବୀ ମୃଗମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ବନଚାରିଣୀ ହରିଣୀ ପରି ବସବାସ କରୁଥିଲା। ସେ କୋମଳ ସବୁଜ ଘାସ ଚରି, ପବିତ୍ର ନଦୀର ଶୁଦ୍ଧ, ଶୀତଳ, ନିର୍ମଳ ଓ ସୁସ୍ୱାଦୁ ଜଳ ପିଇ, ସେହି ଏକାନ୍ତ ବନମାନେ ବିଚରଣ କରୁଥିଲା। ଏଭଳି ବ୍ରହ୍ମଚର୍ୟ ପାଳନ କରି ସେ ଉଚ୍ଚ ଧର୍ମ ଆଚରଣ କଲା।
