विभज्य दण्डं रक्ष्यास्तु धर्मतो न यदृच्छया । दुर्वाचा निग्रहो दण्डो हिरण्यबहुलस्तथा

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca |

vibhajya daṇḍaṁ rakṣyāstu dharmato na yadṛcchayā |

durvācā nigraho daṇḍo hiraṇyabahulastathā ||

Translation

ଭୀଷ୍ମ କହିଲେ—ଦଣ୍ଡକୁ ଭିନ୍ନଭିନ୍ନ ଭାବେ ବିଭାଜନ କରି ଧର୍ମାନୁସାରେ ପ୍ରଜାର ରକ୍ଷା କରିବା ଉଚିତ; ମନମାନିରେ ନୁହେଁ। କଟୁବଚନରେ ଦମନ ‘ବାଗ୍ଦଣ୍ଡ’; ଏବଂ ଅଧିକ ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଆଦାୟ କରାଯାଉଥିବା ଦଣ୍ଡ ‘ଅର୍ଥଦଣ୍ଡ’।
