By listing celebrated royal names and calling one ‘mahātmā’, the verse reinforces the Mahābhārata’s method of teaching dharma through remembered exemplars—ethical authority is grounded in the reputations of righteous rulers and lineages.
Nārada is speaking and continues a catalogue of notable kings/figures, likely within a genealogical or historical enumeration, situating the present discussion in a broader moral-historical lineage.
