The verse frames extraordinary omens (utpātas) as morally weighty indicators whose consequences ripen over time; when such signs appear, they warn rulers that collective adharma and political arrogance can culminate in catastrophic, society-wide ruin—here, the collapse of the warrior order.
Vaiśampāyana addresses the king and interprets the portents that have manifested, stating that their great result is expected to mature over a span of thirteen years and that these particular omens foretell the destruction of all kṣatriyas—an ominous foreshadowing of the coming great war and its devastation.
