The verse urges steadfastness and ethical clarity in crisis: a warrior should act with courage while keeping kṣatriya-dharma—duty, honor, and responsibility in battle—as the foremost guiding principle.
Sanjaya, narrating events of the Kurukṣetra war, delivers an exhortation to a leading fighter to remain resolute and to confront Dhanañjaya (Arjuna) directly, framing the coming clash as an obligation of warrior-duty.
