वायुदेव उवाच
The verse frames heroic steadfastness in righteous battle as a meritorious path leading to svarga, and it counsels the bereaved to relinquish consuming grief—recognizing the deceased’s honorable end and the larger moral order (dharma) governing life and death.
Vāyudeva addresses a noble woman who is suffering after her son’s death. He praises the son’s valor—broad-chested, mighty-armed, unretreating, victorious over enemy chariot-warriors—and consoles her by declaring that the son has attained heaven, urging her to abandon her grief.
