Adhyāya 62: Sañjaya’s Admonition to Dhṛtarāṣṭra on Rāja-dharma and Consequence
अन्योन्यमन्रुवन् देवा: कमयं धास्यतीति वै । मामेवायं धयत्वग्रे इति ह स्माह वासव:,देवताके समान तेजस्वी उस शिशुको पिताकी गोदमें शयन करते देख देवता आपसमें कहने लगे, यह किसका दूध पीयेगा? यह सुनकर इन्द्रने कहा--यह पहले मेरा ही दूध पीये
anyonyam anruvan devāḥ kam ayaṁ dhāsyatīti vai | mām evāyaṁ dhayatv agre iti ha smāha vāsavaḥ ||
ନାରଦ କହିଲେ—ଦେବମାନେ ପରସ୍ପର କହିଲେ—“ଏ କାହାର ଦୁଧ ପିବ?” ଏହା ଶୁଣି ବାସବ (ଇନ୍ଦ୍ର) କହିଲେ—“ଏ ପ୍ରଥମେ ମୋର ଦୁଧ ହିଁ ପିଉ।”
नारद उवाच
The verse suggests that true authority is validated by protective care: Indra’s prominence is expressed not through domination but through taking responsibility for the child’s nourishment and safety.
The gods see a brilliant infant resting in his father’s lap and wonder who will nurse him; Indra (Vāsava) intervenes and insists the child should first drink his milk.
