शिष्टेष्टयज्ञकर्माण: सर्वे वर्णास्तदाभवन् | उन दिनों लोग अधर्ममें रुचि रखनेवाले, लोभी और मूर्ख नहीं होते थे। उस समय सभी वर्णके लोग अपने लिये शास्त्रविहित यज्ञ-यागादि कर्मोंका अनुष्ठान करते थे
śiṣṭeṣṭa-yajña-karmāṇaḥ sarve varṇās tadābhavan |
ନାରଦ କହିଲେ—ସେ ଦିନଗୁଡ଼ିକରେ ସମସ୍ତ ବର୍ଣ୍ଣର ଲୋକ ଶିଷ୍ଟମାନେ ଅନୁମୋଦନ କରିଥିବା ଓ ଶାସ୍ତ୍ରବିହିତ ଯଜ୍ଞ-ଯାଗାଦି କର୍ମ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠାନ କରୁଥିଲେ। କେହି ଅଧର୍ମରେ ରତ ନଥିଲେ; ନ ଲୋଭୀ, ନ ମୂଢ଼। ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ସମୁଦାୟ ନିଜ-ନିଜ ନିୟତ ଧର୍ମକର୍ମକୁ ଯଥାବିଧି ପାଳନ କରୁଥିଲା।
