Droṇa Parva, Chapter 1: Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s grief after Bhīṣma’s fall and the army’s reorientation toward Karṇa

In crisis, people instinctively seek the strongest and most trusted support; here, the narrative frames Karṇa’s Paraśurāma-sanctioned martial competence as a refuge-like reliance, highlighting how authority-backed skill becomes a moral-psychological anchor in emergencies.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that the Kaurava side’s attention and hope turn toward Karṇa, because his weapon-skill and valor—validated by Paraśurāma—seem capable of meeting the looming danger, much like one turns to relatives and allies when disaster strikes.
