यां रात्रि जायते जीवो यां रात्रि च विनश्यति । एतस्मिन्नन्तरे यद्‌ यत्‌ सुकृतं तस्य भारत

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca |

yāṃ rātri jāyate jīvo yāṃ rātri ca vinaśyati |

etasminn antare yad yat sukṛtaṃ tasya bhārata bharatanandana |

Translation

ଭୀଷ୍ମ କହିଲେ—ହେ ଭରତନନ୍ଦନ! ଯେ ରାତିରେ ଜୀବ ଜନ୍ମ ନେଉଛି ଏବଂ ଯେ ରାତିରେ ସେ ନଶ୍ଟ ହୁଏ, ସେଇ ଦୁଇ ରାତିର ମଧ୍ୟବର୍ତ୍ତୀ କାଳରେ ଜୀବନରେ ସେ ଯେଯେ ପୁଣ୍ୟ କରେ—ଯଜ୍ଞ, ଦାନ ଓ ତପରେ ଯାହା କିଛି ଅର୍ଜନ କରେ—ସେ ସବୁ ପ୍ରତିଜ୍ଞାଭଙ୍ଗର ପାପରେ ନଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇଯାଏ।
